Northeast Portland is a diverse collection of neighborhoods that contain some of the oldest and most expensive homes in Portland. Geographically, it is one of the largest neighborhoods in the Portland area and can be seperated into inner and outer sections. The inner Northeast area includes several shopping areas, such as the Lloyd District, Alberta Arts District and Hollywood District, as well as the affluent Irvington, Alameda, Grant Park and Laurelhurst neighborhoods. The Rose Quarter is also situated within the inner Northeast area, which includes the Rose Garden, home of the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oregon Convention Center. At the base of Northeast Portland, where its border meets Southeast Portland, an area near the Burnside Bridge has been redeveloped into a bustling nighlife and entertainment district.
Originally one of Portland's streetcar suburbs, Northeast Portland will be seeing a return of the Portland Streetcar as it is being extended to cross the Broadway Bridge and link MLK & Grant. The MAX light rail system also has several hubs in the area and has made many of Northeast Portland's neighborhoods increasingly accessible.
