The Pearl, a northwest Portland gem, used to be an area of old warehouses and lots filled with weeds and litter. It was not a place people would want to live or even visit. But today, just say the words, "It's in the Pearl," and people are motivated to go. Now, the Pearl abounds with creativity and culture, being established as the flourishing art district of Portland.
Every first thursday of the month, the art galleries in the Pearl rotate their art selections for any and all to view.
Hours: The First Thursday art galleries are open extended hours on the First Thursday evening of each month. Generally the hours are from 6 to 9pm. As individual hours may vary.
Cost: The First Thursday Gallery opening receptions are open to the public. There are no entrance fees.
Parking: Public transportation, like the Portland Streetcar or MAX is highly recommended as the First Thursday event is well attended. There are parking lots near all of the gallery locations and limited on-street parking is free after 6PM.
Participants: Almost every gallery in Downtown and Northwest Portland has extended hours on the First Thursday of every month.
What Type of Art is Shown?: There is a broad range of contemporary art and artists represented at each of the galleries.
